Discussion

a.The Na, K ATPase pump extrude 3Na+ from the cell and take 2 K+ into the cell by using energy ,produced from hydrolysis of ATP to ADP .therefore it is said to have coupling ratio 3:2

b.The Na, K ATPase pump, generates electricity by producing a net movement of positive charge out of a cell therefore it named as electrogenic pump

c.The Na+2 – Ca+2 exchanger is a secondary active transport .it use energy that is created by primary active transport ( Na+ – K+ ATPase pump). The Na+2 – Ca+2 ex-changer remove one Ca+2 from the cell take one Na+ into the cell. Therefore Na+ – K+ ATPase pump indirectly affect affects Ca2+ transport in muscle cells

 e. There are two types of gated channels
  1. Voltage gated channels
  2. Ligand gated channels

Voltage gated channels

This type of gated channels opens in response to the change of electrical potential across the cell membrane. When there is a strong negativity inside the cell membrane, outside sodium gates remain tightly closed. When inside membrane loss its negativity this sodium gates open. Likewise, potassium gates are on inside cell open when the inside of the cell membrane becomes positively charged. Because of that Na, K ATPase pump is a voltage gated channel.

Ligand gated channels
This type of protein channels opened by the binding of chemical substance.
Eg. Acetylcholine gated ion channels
